Elementary STREAMS and Outdoor Environment 01.21.2020
Welcome to our first online newsletter! I hope you find this new format easy to reference and look back on.
Last week in STREAMS we worked on watercolor techniques. We practiced wet-on-dry painting, wet-on-wet painting, and wax-resist painting. We tried to paint similar pictures in every technique to compare their similarities and differences. We also talked about what soluble and water-soluble mean, while we worked with water soluble markers and spray bottles to create a different type of watercolor art. Finally, my kindergarten class had a chance to practice building and then painting a still life, and the results were quite beautiful and unique!
Our garden has been off limits for a few days due to construction (thank you to Mr. Jonovich for installing our outdoor musical instruments!), but we are back up and running and ready to go. This week we will be doing some practical life works: raking the “winter leaves,” weeding our flower garden, and fixing leaks in our irrigation system. We also have some tomato, pepper, and jelly melon seedlings to plant.
We are collecting milk cartons for a spring garden project. Any cardboard or plastic milk cartons, juice cartons, and so on would be so helpful! Please send them to school with your child or drop them off in the front office, labelled for Makerspace. Thank you!
