Preschool Outdoor Environment Newsletter 01.26.2020
This week we were finishing up the installation of instruments in our outdoor environment. I wanted to take this opportunity to share more information about the instruments and the benefits of music in an outdoor classroom.
We have installed a musical fence, a thunder drum, and a rock drum set in the upper area of the preschool garden. Each instrument is made to withstand the climate and elements, and should last for many years in our Outdoor Environment.
Integrating music instruments into nature helps music become a natural part of our day. The improvised play encouraged by having instruments available will facilitate and encourage the learning of rhythm, tone, patterns, and sounds in a practical and relaxed way. By creating a musical sound garden all of our students senses will be engaged when they are in Outdoor Environment classes.
We also named our chickens! After a very serious suggestion and voting process, I am pleased to announce Pepper and Skipper! The ladies have been giving us brown and blue eggs, which we collect daily.
I have been collecting seeds over the past few months, and this month, we will be planting our spring garden. We would love any donations of organic soil and mushroom compost to help our plants grow. Your support for our garden is greatly appreciated!
